Golf irons: tell me if i’m crazy or not?
Im thinking about getting some Callaway x forged irons. However, Im definitely not a player, shoot in the 90s on a good day. I want to play better/hit better so Im thinking if I learn to hit “player” irons, my ball striking will improve . I currently hit X18s -and its kind of boring, shots feel the same, ball flght is pretty high. I also hit Wilson Ci6s and TM 320s well, even the 3 iron. Never hit forged before. The only thing is, everywhere I read, the x forged are players irons, only for low handi players. Good idea or bad ?(cost is not issue, any other suggestions for forgiving player type irons – oxymoron?)
Dougie the Callaway X forged irons will be just fine for you. Your golf ball will not know that the club that just hit it is forged carbon steel or cast stainless steel. The irons are only referred to as players clubs because they have reduced off set and a thinner top line for a cleaner look at address. The blade is still Heel Toe weighted and you will find the blade pretty forgiving on mis hits. Your next step in improving your game should be to step away from those off set X18s and go to where the good players go and that is to a “Players Club” Good Luck
